Infectious disease studies: Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection
Pseudomonas is an opportunistic infection, leading to chronic pneumonia in patients with reduced immune response and especially in children affected with mucoviscidosis.
We have established both acute and chronic infection and test the efficacy of new antibiotics, monoclonal antibodies and other novel therapeutics using clinical and drug resistant bacterial strains (Secher et al submitted).
The acute and chronic tests require 1 and 4 weeks, respectively for the analysis with clinical sore, lung weight and histology as well bacterial burden in the lung (cfu).
Further we have an ongoing R&D project investigating the role of IL-1/inflammasome in host resistance to Pseudomonas infection.
